How Grass-Fed Tallow Skincare Transformed my Skin at 47

The story behind Bee Natural Company, the beauty of grass-fed tallow, and why I believe skincare should be simple, nourishing, and natural.
Hi! My name is Susanne Tommer, and I'm the owner, founder, and hands-on maker behind Bee Natural Company, a small-batch natural skincare business nestled in the beautiful mountains of Potomac, Montana.
Today, I want to get down to the nitty-gritty about how Bee Natural Company came to life, why I fell in love with grass-fed beef tallow, and how this beautiful, simple ingredient changed the way I care for my skin.
But this story is about so much more than my own face.
It's about the women who tell me they're finally comfortable in their own skin. It's about customers who send me messages that bring tears to my eyes. It's about the people who have spent years searching for skincare they actually enjoy using.
And it's about how something as simple as tallow, beeswax, honey, and herbs can become something truly special.
Why Grass-Fed Tallow Skincare Changed My Skin at 47
Let's talk about aging.
What worked for my skin in my 20s and 30s wasn't necessarily what my skin needed as I approached my late 40s.
Our skin changes as we age. Natural oil production can decrease, moisture becomes harder to maintain, and fine lines can become more noticeable.
I wanted something different.
I wanted skincare that would leave my face feeling soft, supple, hydrated, and comfortable. I didn't want to keep chasing the next expensive cream or the newest beauty trend.
I wanted to know exactly what I was putting on my skin.
That's when I began exploring the incredible possibilities of grass-fed beef tallow.
And I haven't looked back.
Today, at 47, I genuinely love how my skin looks and feels. To me, it looks plumper, smoother, and healthier than it did years ago. My fine lines appear softer, and my skin has a beautiful, natural glow.
I never imagined I'd be this excited about my skin in my late 40s!
The Surprising Thing About My Skin: I Don't Feel the Need to Over
wash
One of the biggest changes I've personally noticed is how comfortable my skin feels throughout the day.
I used to think I needed to constantly cleanse, correct, and add more products to my face.
Now, my skincare routine is much simpler.
My skin feels so soft and moisturized that I no longer feel the urge to constantly wash away oil or apply product after product.
That doesn't mean I never wash my face. Gentle cleansing is still important, especially when removing makeup, sunscreen, and daily buildup.
But I've learned that taking care of my skin doesn't need to be complicated.
Sometimes, a simpler routine is exactly what I need.
Why Grass-Fed Tallow? Let's Talk About the Science.
Here's where things get interesting!
Beef tallow is a traditional skincare ingredient that has been used for generations. It's rich in fatty acids, including oleic, palmitic, and stearic acids.
These fats help tallow function as an emollient, softening the skin and helping reduce moisture loss.
Why does that matter?
Our skin has a protective barrier that helps keep moisture in and environmental irritants out.
When skin becomes dry, it can feel tight, rough, flaky, or uncomfortable. Rich moisturizers containing oils and fats can help protect that barrier and improve the way skin feels.
Tallow creates a beautiful, nourishing layer that helps soften dry skin and seal in moisture.
And when it's carefully rendered, blended, and whipped, it can feel wonderfully luxurious.
Is Tallow Better Than Plant Oils?
I love tallow, but I also love beautiful botanical oils.
In fact, some of my favorite formulas combine the two!
Tallow and plant oils have different fatty acid compositions, and each offers its own benefits. Although tallow shares some fatty acids with human skin oils, it isn't identical to our natural sebum.
There's also no strong clinical evidence that tallow is universally superior to plant oils for wrinkles, pores, or skin aging.
What I love is how beautifully it works alongside ingredients such as golden jojoba oil infused with chamomile and calendula, beeswax, and honey.
It's the combination, the craftsmanship, and the way the finished product feels on the skin that makes my formulas special.
I don't believe beautiful skincare has to be complicated. I believe it has to be thoughtfully made.
When My Customers Started Sharing Their Stories, Everything Changed
This is the part of my business that means the most to me.
I can create a beautiful cream, whip a fresh batch of body butter, and spend hours carefully blending herbs and oils.
But nothing compares to hearing from someone who tells me my products have made a meaningful difference in their life.
I've had women come back to my farmers market booth after using my skincare for a year, and the changes in their skin's appearance have been incredible to see.
They tell me people are complimenting their skin.
They're feeling more confident.
They're excited to look in the mirror.
Some have told me they haven't felt this beautiful in years.
I see women whose skin looks softer, smoother, and more radiant, and I am genuinely thrilled for them.
It's those moments that remind me why I started Bee Natural Company.
The Gentleman Who Brought Me to Tears
One customer story will stay with me forever.
A gentleman told me he had struggled with a persistent scalp condition for approximately 20 years and had relied on prescribed steroid treatments.
He decided to try my Tallow, Milk & Honey Soap.
Later, he reached out to share something I never expected.
He told me his scalp had improved so dramatically that he was no longer using his steroid treatment. He became emotional while describing how much better he felt.
After two decades of frustration, he said he finally felt like he'd found the missing piece.
And when he told me his quality of life had changed, I was overwhelmed.
I don't claim that soap cures scalp conditions or replaces medical treatments. His experience is an individual story, not a clinical result, and prescribed medications should only be changed with guidance from a healthcare professional.
But I will never forget his words or what that experience meant to him.
That is why I do what I do.
The Woman Who Wore a Dress Again
Another story that touched my heart came from a woman visiting Missoula, Montana.
She stopped by my farmers market booth and shared that she'd struggled with psoriasis affecting her legs for years.
She told me she hadn't felt comfortable wearing dresses in nearly a decade.
She purchased my Garden Secret Salve
, a botanical balm made with tallow, arnica, and yarrow.
About a week later, she told me her skin looked and felt dramatically different.
She was so happy with her experience that she purchased five more to take home.
But what truly made this story unforgettable was hearing from her again about a year later.
She was wearing dresses again.
After years of hiding her legs, she felt comfortable showing them.
I cannot describe what hearing that meant to me.
Her experience is personal, and psoriasis is a chronic medical condition that requires appropriate medical care. I would never promise that a cosmetic balm treats or cures it.
But the confidence she described was very real to her, and that made a lasting impression on me.
From My Montana Kitchen to Customers Around the World
Every product at Bee Natural Company begins with an idea, a purpose, and ingredients I carefully select.
I use beautiful Montana grass-fed beef tallow, locally sourced beeswax and honey, and botanical infusions that I prepare myself.
I infuse oils with herbs such as chamomile, calendula, and yarrow. I formulate with carefully chosen oils and butters, and I use essential oils to create my signature scents.
I make my products in small batches, with attention to texture, consistency, freshness, and quality.
There is something deeply satisfying about taking raw, simple ingredients and transforming them into a silky face cream or a beautifully whipped body butter.
And what started as a small Montana business has continued to grow.
My products have traveled across the United States and beyond. I receive messages and feedback from customers in so many different places.
But whether someone lives five minutes away or thousands of miles away, every order matters to me.
Every jar represents my work, my reputation, and my commitment to making skincare that I'm proud to share.
Aging Beautifully Isn't About Looking 25 Again
I'm 47.
I'm not trying to pretend I'm 25.
I have lived a life, raised children, worked hard, spent time outdoors, and enjoyed the Montana sunshine.
My skin tells part of that story.
But I also believe that growing older doesn't mean giving up on beautiful skin.
I want my skin to feel nourished. I want it to look healthy. I want to enjoy my natural glow and feel comfortable without layers of makeup.
And that's what my skincare routine has given me.
For me, this is about embracing my age while taking the very best care of the skin I'm in.
Why Bee Natural Company Will Always Be Personal
I didn't build Bee Natural Company to become just another skincare brand on a shelf.
I built it because I genuinely love creating beautiful products from ingredients I believe in.
I love knowing where my tallow comes from.
I love infusing my own oils.
I love using beeswax and honey.
I love watching a batch come together and knowing I made it with my own two hands.
Most of all, I love the relationships I've built with my customers.
When someone comes back after a year and tells me they're receiving compliments on their skin, I celebrate with them.
When someone sends me an emotional message about their experience, I read every word.
And when someone tells me they finally feel beautiful again, I know this little Montana business has become something bigger than I ever imagined.
Bee Natural Company isn't just about tallow. It's about simplicity, quality, confidence, and caring for your skin naturally.
It's about taking something traditional and creating something beautiful for modern skincare.
And it's about believing that sometimes the most wonderful things come from the simplest ingredients.
